We worship every Sunday at 12 noon at the church and on Facebook live. Please, tune in! We enjoy the Deaf choir, our inspiring drum, and our ASL worship. All are welcome.

Service

We care for each other and for our larger community. Every Sunday we offer our food pantry after church, thanks to our partnership with MD Food Bank. We also collaborate with other churches and Deaf Shalom Zone, Inc. to empower the Deaf community. 

Fellowship

Our church members come early and stay late. Some places you may see them: 

  • 10:30am for choir practice and Bible Study
  • 1pm for lunch and fellowship
  • 2pm on Wednesday for Bible Study at Foxwell Memorial Bible Study
  • Deaf Game Days 
  • At the Orioles games
  • With Towson, CCBC, or other students

Our Staff

Rev. Dr. Sandi Johnson

Lead Pastor

The Rev. Dr. Sandi E.  Johnson is celebrating her tenth year at Christ Deaf UMC. She received her Master of Divinity degree from the Iliff School of Theology in Denver, Colorado and her Doctoral Degree at St. Paul School of Theology, in Kansas City, MO. studying Wesleyan Theology and Church Leadership. Her Doctoral Thesis was "The Church is My Parish: Deaf Ministry".  She also carries Masters Degrees in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy and Substance Abuse.


Sandi and her husband Mark (Pastor of Towson UMC), are the proud parents of seven children and are dedicated to spoiling their thirteen grandchildren and their two great-grandchildren. Both Sandi and Mark are passionate about mission work having led volunteer in mission teams to Russia, Kenya, Honduras, New Orleans, and Southwest Colorado. They have also led pilgrimages to the Holy Land.


Pastor Sandi enjoys quilting, creating in the kitchen, being with her family as well as spending time outside in the wonder of Gods creation. She has volunteered as a chaplain in both medical and law enforcement settings.​​​


Rev. Emily Hart

Associate Pastor

Rev. Emily is delighted to serve as the Associate Pastor for Deaf Ministries in the Baltimore-Washington Conference for the UMC.

She graduated from McDaniel College in 2013 and immediately went to seminary at Duke Divinity School (Go Blue Devils!). She graduated in 2016 and came to work for Deaf Ministries. She currently serves with Christ Deaf Church, Deaf Shalom Zone, Magothy UMC Deaf, and Gallaudet University. At Christ Deaf Church she works primarily with youth and young peoples ministries and is having a blast getting to talk about the Gospel with students and adults. She also leads our Wednesday Bible Conversation and occasionally preaches. 

Emily got married July 13, 2018 and is so excited to be exploring life with her husband, Chris. They have two beloved pups, Teddy and Misha.

Kathleen JeFfra

Resource Coordinator 

Kathleen Jeffra recieved a B.S. in Elementary Ed/Early Childhood Development from College of Notre Dame of MD and has extensive experience teaching students from pre-school to adult, especially in a religious setting.  A strong proponent of students-initiated based project-based learning, Kathi brings her special talent to Deaf Shalom Zone facilitating service learning and internship experiences for Deaf Students students from area colleges. 


She parlays these students into a workforce for education, advocacy and social interactions that contribute to vibrant community life at Christ Deaf Church and Deaf Shalom Zone.  She involves students to work alongside Deaf community volunteers in service activities such as Deaf Tax Day, Community Clean-up Days, Yard Sales, and Food Pantry, and accompany Deaf community members to social activities like Halloween and Valentine's Day Parties, Arts and Crafts Days, Games Days, and outings like picnics, and bowling, trips to the MD State Fair, and Orioles Baseball games.


Kathi also supports the Deaf Shalom Zone and Christ Deaf Church with basic administration, record and book keeping, correspondence, maintaining a social media presence, office management, recording and archiving minutes of the Deaf Shalom Zone Board, the Church Council, Staff and other organizational meetings, as well as captioning the worship services.
